Egypt declines the suggestion to assume governance of Gaza.

Egypt Rejects Israeli Proposal for Gaza Administration

Egypt’s Stance on Gaza
Egypt rejected a proposal by Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid for Egypt to manage Gaza after the conflict. The foreign ministry called the suggestion “unacceptable” and against Egyptian and Arab policy.

Lapid’s Proposal
Lapid suggested Egypt take control of Gaza for eight years, with an option to extend it to 15 years.
In exchange, Egypt’s foreign debt would be paid off by international and regional allies.
He proposed Egypt lead a “peace force” for Gaza’s management and rebuilding, aiming for demilitarization and self-governance.

Egypt’s Response
Egypt emphasized that Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, must remain under Palestinian sovereignty. The foreign ministry rejected any solution that bypasses the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

Rejection of Mass Displacement
Egypt has previously opposed any plans to relocate Gaza’s 2.4 million inhabitants.
It considers such proposals, like mass displacement to Egypt or Jordan, a “red line.”
