This is the Robdozer, a heavily armored engineering vehicle operated remotely. In this case, it was controlled from a military expo thousands of miles away in Alabama.

According to army engineers and defense experts, the Robdozer — a robotic adaptation of Caterpillar’s D9 bulldozer — represents the future of automated warfare.

While the Israeli military has long relied on the D9 for frontline tasks such as clearing rubble, preparing terrain, and creating pathways for advancing troops, the outbreak of war in Gaza in October 2023 and escalating tensions in Lebanon have prompted the IDF to increasingly deploy the unmanned version. This move aims to improve operational capabilities while minimizing danger to soldiers.

“The goal is to remove the person from the bulldozer cockpit,” said Rani, a member of the Robdozer development team at Israel Aerospace Industries.
