Series of Explosions Rock Israel, Believed to Be Terrorist Attack
Bus Bombings in Bat Yam
On Thursday night, three buses exploded in a parking lot in Bat Yam, Israel, in what authorities are calling a likely terrorist attack. The explosions occurred around 8:30 PM, but fortunately, no injuries were reported, as the buses were empty at the time.
Bombs Found on Other Buses
Following the explosions, police and Israel’s internal security service, Shin Bet, halted bus services and conducted thorough inspections. They discovered two additional explosive devices under other buses, which were safely defused. The bombs were reportedly set with timers to detonate on Friday.
Investigation Underway
A preliminary police investigation revealed that the explosive devices were identical, suggesting they may have been placed by one or more suspects. Authorities are now working to determine whether a single individual or multiple operatives were behind the attack.
Link to Recent Hamas Activity
The explosions occurred hours after Hamas released the bodies of four Israeli hostages who had been held in Gaza, marking a significant event in the ongoing ceasefire. The hostages’ deaths were confirmed as part of the ongoing phase of the ceasefire.
Prime Minister Orders Increased Security Measures
In response to the bombing, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered an “intensive operation” against terrorist cells in the West Bank. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are continuing anti-terror operations and have blocked entry into certain areas of Judea and Samaria.
IDF Airstrikes in Lebanon
The same night, the IDF carried out airstrikes along the Lebanon-Syria border, targeting Hezbollah border crossings used for smuggling weapons. This action was in response to what the IDF called a violation of the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.
Defense Minister’s Response
Following the bombings, Defense Minister Israel Katz instructed the IDF to ramp up counterterrorism operations in the West Bank, particularly in refugee camps used as strongholds by Palestinian militant groups. He vowed to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure in these areas.
Political Leaders Call for Stronger Actions
Israeli politician Benny Gantz called the attack a “mega-attack” and urged for powerful responses targeting not only the perpetrators but also those who finance terrorism. He stressed the need for decisive actions to deter future attacks.
The explosions have heightened security concerns in Israel, with authorities continuing to monitor the situation closely and intensifying operations in the West Bank. The investigation is ongoing, and officials are working to prevent further terrorist activity in the region.
