Federal Government Announces Public Holidays for Eid ul-Fitr 2025

The federal government has officially declared public holidays for Eid ul-Fitr, spanning from March 31 to April 2, 2025.

Official Notification and Holiday Period

A notification issued by the Cabinet Secretariat confirmed that the prime minister has approved these dates as public holidays in celebration of Eid ul-Fitr. The holiday period, from Monday to Wednesday, will allow citizens to observe the festivities and participate in traditional celebrations.

Moon Sighting and Confirmation of Eid Date

Meanwhile, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, along with zonal committees, will convene on the evening of Sunday, March 30, 2025 (Ramazan 29, 1446 AH), to sight the Shawwal moon. The meeting, to be held at the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, will bring together religious scholars, meteorological experts, and other stakeholders to analyze moon sighting reports from across the country. This session will determine the exact date for Eid ul-Fitr, marking the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan.

Scientific Assessments and Predictions

Earlier in February 2025, the Pakistan Space & Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) provided scientific forecasts regarding the visibility of both the Ramadan and Shawwal crescents. Based on astronomical calculations and observational data, Suparco predicted that the Shawwal moon would likely be visible on March 30, suggesting that Eid ul-Fitr will fall on March 31, 2025.

With the official holiday announcement and upcoming moon sighting committee meeting, preparations for Eid ul-Fitr are underway. The final confirmation of the Eid date will depend on the moon sighting on March 30, but scientific projections strongly indicate celebrations will commence on March 31, 2025.
