National Leadership Commends Military and Civilian Martyrs
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued resolute statements on Tuesday in response to India’s cross-border aggression, praising the valor of the armed forces and mourning the tragic loss of civilian lives. The leadership reiterated the nation’s unity and unwavering resolve to defend its territorial integrity.
President Zardari strongly condemned what he termed India’s “blatant aggression,” characterizing it as a violation of international law and humanitarian principles. He lauded the Pakistani armed forces for their swift and effective defense of national sovereignty during Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos, declaring that the operation had “shattered the enemy’s arrogance.” Offering heartfelt condolences, he expressed solidarity with the families of the martyrs, including women and children, and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
In a separate statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif echoed Zardari’s sentiments, affirming that the military had “fulfilled its promise” by confronting Indian aggression with full force. He emphasized that the operation sent a clear message: any violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty would be met with firm retaliation.
Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos: A Strategic Display of Strength
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the strategic importance of Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos, portraying it as a decisive and calibrated military response to India’s provocations. He stressed that the operation was not just a defense, but a reaffirmation of Pakistan’s strategic resolve.
Paying tribute to the armed forces, Sharif honored the sacrifices of five Pakistan Air Force personnel and six officers and soldiers from the Pakistan Army who were martyred in the operation. He also expressed grief over the loss of 40 innocent civilians, including 15 children and 7 women, calling their sacrifice a “painful reminder of the human cost of aggression.”
The Prime Minister announced the implementation of a state-backed Martyrs’ Package for the families of the deceased, underscoring the government’s enduring commitment to those who laid down their lives. “We are a peaceful nation,” he stated, “but we know how to respond when our sovereignty is challenged.”
ISPR Report Details Civilian and Military Losses Amid Indian Strikes
In an official statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan confirmed that at least 51 individuals were martyred during India’s unprovoked cross-border attacks on May 6 and 7. Among them were 40 civilians—including 7 women and 15 children—and 11 members of the armed forces.
The ISPR condemned the Indian assault as “reprehensible,” stating that Indian forces had deliberately targeted civilian residential areas in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. In addition to the fatalities, 121 civilians were injured, including 27 children and 10 women. The military also sustained 78 personnel wounded during the defense of national territory.
The ISPR emphasized that the armed forces executed a measured and precise retaliatory response, acting with discipline and professionalism. The military’s conduct, it said, reflected a commitment to national defense while avoiding unnecessary escalation.
