China backs Pakistan as tensions with India escalate.

President Asif Ali Zardari met with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong on Monday at Aiwan-e-Sadr to review Pakistan-China bilateral relations and discuss the escalating tensions with India following the April 22 Pahalgam incident. Zardari voiced deep concern over India’s “irresponsible and aggressive posture,” warning that such actions threaten the peace and stability of the region.

Ambassador Jiang reaffirmed China’s enduring and strategic partnership with Pakistan, describing the two countries as “iron brothers” and assuring Beijing’s unwavering support in maintaining regional peace. He thanked President Zardari for sharing Pakistan’s perspective and emphasized China’s commitment to stability in South Asia.

In a separate meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also engaged with Ambassador Jiang. He thanked Chinese Premier Li Qiang for supporting Pakistan’s call for a credible and transparent international investigation into the Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Sharif expressed appreciation for China’s continued backing amid rising regional tensions and conveyed his best wishes to President Xi Jinping and Premier Li, commending China’s understanding of Pakistan’s principled position on India’s actions.
