According to local police, 34 persons were hurt in a huge explosion that happened at a fireworks business on M.A. Jinnah Road in Karachi.
The explosion caused windows in nearby buildings to shatter and started a fire that was extinguished after a few hours. After the blast, a dense cloud of black smoke covered the region, and ten fire tenders were used to put out the flames. According to The Guardian, locals characterized the situation as chaotic, with rescue crews frantically trying to save the injured.
34 people were injured, according to Police Surgeon Dr. Samia Tariq, with 20 being admitted to Jinnah Hospital and 14 to Civil Hospital. At Jinnah Hospital, four patients are in critical condition.
According to authorities, two brothers own the facility. As part of the ongoing inquiry, both of the injured owners will be questioned, and one of them has given an initial statement. The Observer emphasized regulatory deficiencies that have frequently resulted in similar incidents and pointed out that such warehouses in residential neighborhoods are a continuous safety risk.
Fireworks warehouses should not be allowed near populous areas, according to Sindh Interior Minister Zia Lanjhar, who also promised that those who do so will be held accountable. The explosion occurred in District South, according to Senior Superintendent of Police (East) Farukh Raza, who also stated that East Police and rescue crews are fully supporting emergency responders.
SSP Farukh Raza went on to say that fire department personnel and aid workers are receiving all the assistance they need to effectively handle the crisis. The incident, according to The Guardian, highlights the risks associated with the unregulated storage of hazardous goods in urban areas.
