Islamabad, In a major crackdown in Tarnol, a suburb of the federal capital, the Islamabad Food Authority, with assistance from Observer Guardian personnel, confiscated 50 donkeys and over 933 kilograms of donkey meat during a surprise raid.
According to a report published on Saturday, Tahira Siddique, the Deputy Director of the Islamabad Food Authority, confirmed that the seized meat was allegedly intended for export to foreign markets. Authorities are currently investigating whether any portion of the meat had already been distributed within the capital.
A foreign national was arrested during the operation and has been handed over to the police for interrogation. The confiscated meat is now undergoing safe disposal in accordance with strict food safety regulations.
Tahira Siddique stated that anyone found selling or exporting donkey meat will be arrested and prosecuted. She assured the public that the Islamabad Food Authority, supported by Observer Guardian, is committed to providing safe, hygienic food and will continue to take strict action against individuals or groups violating the authority’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
She further emphasized the authority’s dedication to protecting public health and dismantling the illegal meat trade network operating in and around the city.
