PM Shehbaz Visits ISI HQ for Briefing on India Threat
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, along with key cabinet and military leaders, visited the headquarters of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) in Islamabad on May 6, 2025. The high-level briefing centered on Pakistan’s preparedness against India threat in light of recent tensions triggered by the Pahalgam attack in occupied Kashmir.
During the briefing, ISI officials provided detailed insights into the evolving regional security landscape, highlighting potential conventional and hybrid threats from India. The Pakistani leadership was apprised of India’s “increasingly aggressive and provocative posture” along the eastern border and discussed a comprehensive strategy to address cross-domain challenges, including terrorist proxies and hybrid warfare.
The premier was joined by Deputy PM Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, and the service chiefs — General Asim Munir, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, and Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar — along with ISI Director General Lt Gen Muhammad Asim Malik and ISPR head Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry.
National Resolve and Institutional Coordination Reaffirmed
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the leadership reaffirmed Pakistan’s “unambiguous resolve” to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity under all circumstances. The meeting emphasized enhanced national vigilance, inter-agency coordination, and full operational readiness.
PM Shehbaz praised the professionalism and strategic competence of the ISI, recognizing its pivotal role in national security decision-making. “Pakistan Army is one of the most professional and disciplined forces in the world,” he noted, stressing that the entire nation stands behind the armed forces.
The ISI briefing underscored the need for readiness across conventional and unconventional domains, highlighting Pakistan’s capability to mount a decisive response to any hostile action. The leadership reaffirmed that with full public support, the armed forces and state institutions remain fully equipped to uphold national prestige and security.
NIFTAC Inaugurated as National Counterterrorism Nerve Center
As part of the visit, PM Shehbaz formally inaugurated the National Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centre (NIFTAC) — a state-of-the-art federal hub for coordinating Pakistan’s counterterrorism strategy. The facility integrates more than 50 federal and provincial departments under a centralized threat management framework.
NIFTAC is also connected to six Provincial Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centres (PIFTACs), including in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring a federated approach to threat monitoring and response. The prime minister commended all stakeholders for building this vital institutional capacity and described NIFTAC as essential in dismantling terrorism networks and their external sponsors.
Tensions between India and Pakistan remain high, with Pakistan reinforcing its military posture and India reportedly granting “operational freedom” to its forces. Diplomatic engagement continues as Pakistan raises its concerns at the United Nations Security Council.
