Landslide Risk Looms Over Murree and Galiyat
A fresh spell of monsoon rains is expected to hit Punjab, raising concerns of landslides in Murree and Galiyat, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
A PDMA Punjab spokesperson has informed that rainfall is forecast to begin from July 28, affecting most districts of Punjab through July 31. The authority has urged local observers and emergency guardians to remain alert during this period.
Rain is expected in Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujrat, Gujranwala, and Hafizabad, as per the latest PDMA advisory.
In addition, showers are also likely to occur in Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Khushab, Sargodha, Mianwali, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, and Okara, where field observers are advised to monitor water flow and infrastructure conditions.
The PDMA further stated that between July 29 and 31, rainfall is also predicted in Dera Ghazi Khan, Bhakkar, Bahawalpur, Pakpattan, Vehari, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, and Rajanpur.
Due to the intensity of the incoming monsoon wave, the risk of landslides remains high in Murree and Galiyat, and there is heightened concern over damage to mud houses and structurally weak buildings. The guardians of local communities and emergency services are being advised to stay vigilant and prepare for timely evacuations if needed.
