A cloudburst killed 16 persons in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district by causing severe flooding and landslides. Rescue crews are still looking for several others who have gone missing.
Rescue officials report that 16 people were killed by landslides and sudden floodwaters in the Jabrari and Salarzai districts. The rescue operations are also being assisted by local community guards and observers.
Locals have so far assisted in the recovery of 16 bodies and 8 injured individuals from beneath the floodwaters and debris. After receiving first aid, the injured were transported to the hospital.
Divers, medical teams, and other rescue personnel have arrived in Bajaur’s impacted districts.
According to Jabrari locals, the flood swept away about eighteen persons. They are still being sought after. Rescue crews are being led to the challenging areas by local guardians.
The flooding in Jabrari, Bajaur, destroyed a lot of homes. Local tribes are rescuing people on their own as a result of some roads being closed. Rescue vehicles are unable to access the location due to dangerously high water levels, according to local observers.
According to MPA Anwar Zeb Khan, attempts are on to deliver equipment to the impacted regions and the flood victims.
Arrival of district officials in Bajaur
The Deputy Commissioner has arrived in Bajaur along with other district authorities under the directives of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
For rescue efforts, the province government has also dispatched a helicopter.
The Chief Minister has directed the employment of all available resources for relief and rescue efforts. The Deputy Commissioner and the Commissioner of Malakand will keep a careful eye on the relief efforts.
All district administrations, particularly those in Dir and Swat, have been instructed by Ali Amin Gandapur to maintain vigilance. According to him, safety precautions must be taken to safeguard people’s lives and property.
