Israel Launches Airstrikes on Yemen’s Hodeidah Port in Retaliatory Move
Israel has carried out air raids on Yemen’s western Hodeidah governorate, targeting areas near the Red Sea port controlled by the Houthi movement. The strikes, launched late Sunday, follow an earlier Houthi missile attack near Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv, further inflaming an already volatile regional conflict.
According to the Houthi-run Interior Ministry, Israeli forces issued evacuation warnings before attacking three strategic port locations. These strikes are the latest in a series of Israeli assaults on Yemeni infrastructure, including previous attacks on Sanaa International Airport and various sites across the capital.
Escalation Follows Houthi Missile Attacks on Israel and Red Sea Targets
The Israeli response comes after weeks of missile launches by the Houthis targeting both Israeli territory and Israeli-linked vessels in the Red Sea. These attacks, according to the Houthis, are acts of solidarity with Palestinians amid Israel’s ongoing military campaign in Gaza, now in its nineteenth month.
The Houthis confirmed that their latest missile was aimed at Israel in retaliation for its continued aggression in Palestine. In return, Israeli strikes have intensified, including disabling key infrastructure such as Sanaa’s international airport.
Ceasefire Deal Excludes Israel-Houthi Hostilities
Despite a recent ceasefire arrangement between the Houthis and the United States, Houthi negotiators clarified earlier this week that the agreement does not extend to operations involving Israel. “Our operations against Israel are not covered in the US-brokered ceasefire in any way,” the group’s chief negotiator said, reaffirming their stance on continued attacks against Israeli interests.
The latest developments suggest that the conflict between Israel and the Houthis may persist independently of broader diplomatic efforts, as both sides signal no intent to scale back their respective military actions.
