Israeli Airstrikes Kill 54 in Gaza as Ceasefire Talks Resume in Doha

Dozens killed as violence surges in Gaza; ceasefire negotiations restart in Doha and Arab League leaders convene in Baghdad

1. Intensifying Conflict Leaves 54 Dead Across Gaza

At least 54 Palestinians were killed in a series of Israeli airstrikes across Gaza on Saturday, local health authorities confirmed. The majority of the casualties—26 people—were reported in the northern region of the enclave. Among the deceased were four children whose bodies were recovered from the rubble in Jabalia following a targeted strike.

The intensified military operations are part of Israel’s stated effort to gain “operational control” in several strategic zones. However, the escalating violence has drawn international concern, with calls mounting for immediate de-escalation and protection of civilians.

2. Arab League Summit in Baghdad Dominated by Gaza Crisis

As the conflict worsens, Arab leaders gathered in Baghdad for an emergency Arab League summit on Saturday. The Gaza war topped the agenda, with member states urging a unified response to the deepening humanitarian disaster and rising civilian toll.

The summit comes at a critical moment, with the region grappling with the broader implications of the war, including regional security, refugee displacement, and the political future of the Palestinian territories.

3. Ceasefire Talks Resume in Doha Despite Tensions

In parallel with the summit, ceasefire negotiations between Hamas and Israeli representatives resumed in Doha, Qatar. Hamas official Taher al-Nono confirmed that discussions had restarted and were being held without preconditions.

“Hamas is keen to exert all the effort needed to support mediators in making these negotiations successful,” Nono told Reuters. He clarified, however, that “no certain offer is currently on the table.”

The diplomatic push follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent Middle East visit, which ended on Friday without securing a ceasefire. Despite the lack of immediate progress, Trump acknowledged the dire humanitarian situation and emphasized the urgent need for aid deliveries to Gaza.

As talks continue and the world watches, the situation on the ground remains dire. The international community is increasingly pressing for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further loss of civilian life and stabilize the region.
