Washington:
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again claimed credit for preventing a potential war between Pakistan and India.
Speaking at an event, Trump asserted that he had stopped eight wars through trade diplomacy, adding that one of them was the near-conflict between Pakistan and India.
Trump stated, “During the Pakistan-India tensions, seven aircraft were downed. Both countries are nuclear powers, and I told them very clearly that if you go to war, the United States will stop all trade. Within 24 hours, they agreed to a ceasefire.”
He further mentioned that he would soon be holding extensive discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping, saying, “In the coming two weeks, we will talk about many important matters, and I believe it will go very well.”
It is worth noting that Donald Trump has, on multiple occasions, claimed to have played a significant role in defusing tensions between Pakistan and India, especially during the 2019 Pulwama-Balakot crisis.
Meanwhile, White House officials have clarified that there are currently no plans for a meeting between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. U.S. and Russian foreign ministers also have no immediate plans for an in-person meeting.
