Tehran Holds Washington Accountable Amid Rising Tensions
Iran has issued a stern warning to the United States, declaring that it would hold Washington responsible should Israel carry out any attack on Iranian nuclear facilities. This follows a CNN report suggesting Israeli preparations for potential strikes against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi addressed the warning in a formal letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, calling for global intervention to deter Israeli threats.
“The international community must act now,” Araghchi stated, urging preventive measures to stop what he described as Israeli adventurism. He emphasized that Tehran would consider the US as a participant in any hostile action, given its strategic alliance with Israel.
Iran Denies Nuclear Weapon Ambitions, Warns of ‘Devastating’ Response
Iran continues to reject allegations that it is pursuing nuclear weapons, insisting its program is purely civilian in nature. However, with ongoing nuclear talks between Iran and the US set to continue in Rome on Friday—marking the fifth round of negotiations—diplomatic tensions remain high.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued its own warning, declaring that any Israeli attack would be met with a “devastating and decisive response.” IRGC spokesperson Alimohammad Naini asserted that Israel was making a grave miscalculation, underestimating Iran’s military capabilities and popular support.
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei also criticized US demands regarding uranium enrichment, calling them “excessive and outrageous.”
US-Iran Nuclear Talks Continue Amid Israel’s Opposition
While the US and Iran prepare for another round of indirect nuclear negotiations, Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, continue to voice strong opposition to any potential deal that allows Iran to retain uranium enrichment capabilities.
Diplomatic observers warn that failure to reach a comprehensive agreement, or a deal that fails to address Israel’s security concerns, could prompt unilateral military action by Tel Aviv.
Despite the escalating rhetoric, Israel has not officially confirmed any plans for strikes. Nonetheless, Iran’s latest warnings underscore the fragile balance of power in the region and the potential for rapid escalation if diplomacy falters.
